This week has sort of felt like summer! We’ve dusted off our shorts and T shirts and caught a few rays. We’re pleased to see that the glorious weather has continued into today, Friday the 22nd of July 2016. Do you know why? Because today is the day Georgie and Andy are getting married! 😀
It felt like a life time ago when we met up with Georgie and her mum Gill at the delightful Bowhouse shop and cafe in Marlborough (you should all go there, it’s amazing). We chatted and talked through the plans for the wedding and answered any questions Georgie & Gill had. A few days later, Georgie emailed to say she’d love to book us to be her band for her wedding to Andy at Wellington Barn in Wiltshire.
I really enjoyed hearing from Georgie & Andy in the lead up to the big day, running through timings, ideas and song choices. I got a chance to visit them again to talk wedding at their home near by a couple of months ago. It was so great being able to run through so much in person!
Fast forward 6 months and here we are! The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and we are on our way! It’s about 4:30 and we’re early, and the wedding party have just headed inside for the wedding breakfast. Lead guitarist Ben & drummer Simon are meeting us at Wellington Barn as it’s not too far from their houses in Trowbridge.
As were performing in a separate room, it meant we could set up in our own time and sound check a little bit later on once speeches had taken place, which is ideal, as it gives us a lot of time for us to set up and soundcheck.
We love Wellington Barn (and not just because we’re on their preferred suppliers list). We love them for lots of reasons. Here are just a few of of them:
The staff are incredibly nice and wonderful and help us search in the dark for misplaced car keys
The views are just aaaaah-mazing (see below)
Inside is beautiful
The load in is fantastically straight forward with no stairs or lifts or cable cars or hurdles
There are lots of plug sockets
There is no sound limiter
They laugh at our jokes
They are the providers of drinks
They make us feel good about ourselves
They put on debatably awesome music when packing away
Have a look at these, and you’ll see what I mean about the view.
Set up and soundcheck was straightforward. It’s always helpful when we’ve performed at a venue previously. If you frequently read our blogs, you’ll know we only use the very best equipment so that we can get the very best sound we possibly can. Our equipment is regularly serviced and PAT tested annually. If you want to know more about the kit we bring, or why we use what we do, get in touch with us!
We enjoyed tucking into some delicious grub whilst setting up, thank you to the team at Sweet Pea for making this for us, and thank you to Georgie and Andy for arranging this for us.
We got to see the happy couple, and meet their lovely daughter Lola, whilst we were setting up. Georgie looked so incredible. Her dress was just amazing. And her make up was just perfect; it was done by the incredibly talented make up artist, Karen Matthews. Married to Lee Matthews, this skilled pair run a pretty awesome hair and beauty salon in Marlborough. So if you need anything doing, you really need to get in touch with these beauties. Soon it was time for the first dance. Performed by family friend and totally awesome musician Joe Pike. Joe is an accomplished and experienced pianist specialising in weddings, private parties and corporate events. Based in Bath, he travels all over performing at lots of different events. We had heard him performing throughout the wedding breakfast for Georgie & Andy, it was beautiful. You should totally get in touch with him if you’re looking for a pianist for your day.
Lead guitarist Ben and bass player Tommy had a chance to practice their routine whilst Joe was warming up.
Soon it was time for Georgie & Andy’s first dance, a beautiful Sam Smith track. Joe performed it wonderfully.
Then it was time for us! Yipeeee! We’d been looking forward to this for literally months! We played so many awesome songs, I can’t remember quite what they were, but they were good! Check out our repertoire, as I know we played some songs on here! Below are some photos from the night, they sort of capture just how awesome it was, but it kinda helped if you were there! The dance floor was rammo-d the whole entire evening. The floor was slippery with sweat and happy tears. Everyone was smiling and hugging, it was pretty special.
Thanks so much to Georgie and Andy for choosing us to be their band. Thank you to the team at Wellington Barn for being totes amazing. Thank you to the lovelies as Sweet Pea for making us some grub. Thanks to Joe Pike, for being brilliant. And thank you of course to team Zoots – lead guitarist Ben, drummer Simon, bass player Tommy – bloody love you guys.
Georgie got in touch after the big day with these lovely words:
“You guys were literally incredible !! Thankyou so so so much!! Everyone keeps asking where we found you… As if you were from another world!!”
