Last year we were fortunate enough to perform at Liz and Ian’ s wedding in Somerset. It took place at Fernhill Farm the other side of Bristol. We had a great night, and relished our acoustic in the dark jam when the power went 10 minutes before the end!
It was fantastic wedding and whilst the lovely couple were on their honeymoon, they a received a call from Liz’s sister, Melanie and her partner, Dan. They were calling to see if The Zoots were available to perform for their wedding day in 2017! We said yes and the couple booked us in!
Fast forward a year a so and we were heading down the M4 west and venturing through Henley to Phyllis Court. It was a rainy Saturday and as we didn’t get any photos of the venue but found this one from a very long time ago! Phyllis Court has a long history going back to 1301. Guests have included, Oliver Cromwell and Roger Moore. The venue was also featured in the Hollywood film ‘Social Network’ starring Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake about the story of Facebook.
We arrived, loaded in the equipment via the kitchen and set up super quick. It’s a lot easier with our new sound guy Ed Scott.
Dan and Mel chose You and Me by The Wannadies as their first dance, it really is a great song for a first dance as it starts slow and builds really nicely. Its upbeat and happy. Luckily for us, lots of the guests had seen us before and they were all on the dance floor straight away!
Most of the songs were chosen by Dan and Mel and they picked some classic tunes and some we haven’t played in a while including Come up and see me by Steve Harley, Get it on by T.REX and Stuck in the middle with you by Stealers Wheel. We also played American Pie which we haven’t done for years but it went down really well. It was fab to see Ian again and have a guitar jam together!
Mel’s Nan was fantastic on the dance floor and when she was playing the inflatable guitar it was one of my favourite parts or the evening.
We made sure we put on an energetic show, the dancefloor was packed the whole evening!
It was a fantastic wedding reception and despite the rain, it was an amazing day! Thank you so much to Mel and Dan for being such great hosts and putting on such a fab wedding with a real party atmosphere.
We enjoyed performing another request from Mel and Dan; Mr Brightside by The Killers which we hadn’t done for a while. We also did the limbo a short while which was great fun.
As a surprise Dan had asked us to end the evening with ‘By with a little help from my friends’ by The Beatles which Simon sang.
