On Saturday 27th December The Zoots performed at Laura & Sam Wallace’s wedding reception at Chiswell Street Dining Rooms part of the prestigious 5 star Montcalm Hotel in central London. The impressive 17th Century building was once owned by the Whitbread Brewery and one of the first mass production breweries in England. The style and decoration throughout the hotel oozed class and the staff were extremely helpful. We met Sam and Laura a few months before the big day to discuss the plans and the load in to make sure everything flowed like clockwork on the night. Below is a picture of the venue on the day and back in the day. I also got a sneaky shot of the reception staff who kindly opened up the doors for us to load in our equipment.
We set up and then proceeded to our green room which Laura had kindly arranged for us. It was a chance for us to catch up with the band after a short Christmas break. Here is a picture of Ben, Si & Stu in soundcheck, the corridor and our brilliant dressing room. We loved the chandelier! Laura and Sam really looked after us and made sure we got a delicious meal and plenty of tea and water to keep us going.
Laura and Sam live in Canada and flew all the way to the UK for their special day! Laura is from Yorkshire and Sam is from Scotland but they recently moved accross the pond and came back to spend their wonderful day with all their family and friends. The couple chose ‘Powder Blue‘ by Elbow for their first dance with a well executed romantic slow dance gradually joined by all their guests.
The songs that Sam and Laura chose from our repertoire included some of my favourites. We began the night with a real corker…’Johnny B Goode’, followed swiftly by, ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Do you wanna dance’ before heading into some non stop rock ‘n roll. Everyone was up and dancing! We were sweaty messes! 500 miles by The Proclaimers proved to be a favourite with the Scottish guests!
We don’t get to play “Knocking on Heavens door” or “Paradise City” by Guns ‘n Roses very often and I think I sounded as close to Axel Rose as I ever have with my seasonal croaky throat! The last song we performed was “Tonight we are Young” by Fun and all the guests formed a tunnel for Sam and Laura to walk through hand in hand. They both looked so happy! If you have any more photos from the night please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for reading!
All the best,
When we got back to the office in early January we had a lovely note waiting for us from Mr & Mrs Wallace:
