Jamie spoke about The Sounds of the 60s show and the up and coming shows, the origin of the band and some interesting facts! We’ve been talking about the music of the 60s with The Zoots front man Jamie Goddard from Chiseldon in Wiltshire, who’s been chatting to me ahead of their gig at Salisbury Arts Center on November the 21st. it’s going to be a good one. They celebrate the music of the likes of Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, the Searchers, the Beatles in this sort of nostalgia fest evening, which is absolutely fantastic. Jamie has a real love of the 60s and also a love of his area, in particular, his local radio station.
All the members of the zoots are all from Wiltshire. We listen to BBC Wiltshire quite a lot. And my partner, Harriet, who’s also the singer in the group. She’s got an art business called Made by Harriet, and she comes on the show quite a lot. So we live in Chiseldon and the rest of the guys live around Wiltshire. But we love it here, and we love what BBC Wiltshire does for the community. We think it’s fantastic station.
We’re bigging up Harriet and everybody as well. So, fantastic. Fantastic. What a fun job that you have. Do you do this full time? Yeah, I’ve been doing it full time since I left school, really, which is quite a long time ago, but we’ve lived in Wiltshire now for about 15 years. Loved every minute of it, and I’d never move.
I’d never move from Wiltshire now, and we’ve always listened to the radio since we’ve moved here, and it is a big part of of our lives, and we really appreciate what you guys do. There’s something about turning on a radio, and I listen to podcasts a bit and stuff like that, but there’s nothing like turning on the radio and hearing the weather forecast and hearing what’s happening where you live. You can’t replicate that. We didn’t know anyone when we moved here, so it really felt like it helped us kind of get to know what was going on in Wiltshire, and it helps us to integrate into the into the community. So it really makes a big difference, I think, what the local BBC stations do.
Oh, well, that is lovely to hear that. And you know, we wouldn’t be anywhere without the venues. Which brings us on, in a way, to mentioning Salisbury Arts Center, because you’re going to be there in November, aren’t you?
Yeah, yeah, we’re going to be there on the 21st of November. We’re doing our Sounds of the 60s show at Salisbury Art Center, which is a lovely, converted church. It’s an amazing venue. If you’ve not been there, it’s just jaw droppingly nice. And it’s an awesome place to play. They’ve set it up so well in there, and it’s so impressive. What they’ve done with the Salisbury Arts Center, it’s just such a fantastic place to play. And we just can’t wait so that. If you go to thezoots.com you can look at all of our tour dates on there. It’s the last day of our tour. It should be a really special show.
Yeah, it’s gonna have a really special feel to it, I have no doubt. And then you’ll be into Christmas. Have you got some time off?
My Harriet, she gets really, really busy over Christmas, so she’s gonna be working even harder. So I’ll probably have to help pack some orders for that, like it’s all dog related and cat related, socks and tote bags and stuff like that. And T shirts, wonderful.
