Colin and Jane first saw the band perform in 2012 performing at St Georges Hotel in Chatham, Colin was looking for a band for his 50th birthday party so we had a chat and booked The Zoots. We performed at Colin’s fantastic party in Gillingham in 2013 and Colin gave us a glowing testimonial. We have stayed in touch ever since! We’ve also performed for Colin’s friends Nikki and Simon in 2016, read the blog here.
For the last six years The Zoots have been travelling all over the world which makes time in the UK more precious. It has been wonderful to share special times with special people and we feel like Colin and Jane are part of family and part of our journey, so we jumped at the chance when they asked us to perform for their wedding anniversary this year.
We left Wiltshire and travelled east on the M4 and clockwise round the M25 and over the Dartford Crossing. Dartford always makes me think about Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones as thats where they grew up.
We arrived at King Charles Hotel at about 430pm and luckily Colin had reserved four spaces so we could put our van right next to the exit doors. After soundcheck Colin and Jane kindly got us some tea, coffee and sandwiches and we made some last minute notes on the set list.
As we’ve know Colin and Jane for nearly five years we wanted to make the show extra special so we started the first set with Tommy on the double bass. As we started quite early we had to put on a show and the guests enjoyed the interaction. In the second set we played lots of songs from around the time that Colin and Jane were married including Faith by George Michael, Bad by Michael Jackson and I’m gonna be (500 miles) which Ben sang, the crowd loved it. Lots of late 80s and early 90’s songs to take them back.
It was really lovely to see Simon and Nikki whose party we played last year, it is so nice to see people you know at gigs as you always have a special bond with them having played at such an important party in their lives.
30 years ago Colin and Jane had ‘The Power of love’ by Jennifer Rush as their first dance, so we reminded the lovely couple of this halfway through the night and got all the guests to join in a lived moment of their first dance. It was an emotional moment which saw all the guests embraced and together. After the show we had a picture with our fantastic hosts; Colin, Jane and their son Jack.
We received this lovely email from Colin and Jame following our show:
“Dear Jamie, Harriet and the Band
We just wanted to say a huge thank you for playing for us on Saturday night. We had an absolutely fantastic time made all the more special by you being there. Our friends and family thought you were unbelievable and a brilliant time was had by all. You have played for us twice now and we are so happy that you have been part of our life story and two such special occasions- you now feel like part of the family! We can’t thank you all enough, you work so hard and always give 100% and your sets are amazing- everyone loves you- young and old and everything in between! We hope you realise what an achievement that is!
Thank you all again With love Colin and Jane”
