We met Steph, Tim & Hugo what felt like a lifetime ago. We loved them instantly. Such a fun, relaxed and cool couple. I really wanted to be their friends. We were hugely excited about performing for them. Their wedding was to take place at Bird Place, a private house in Henley on Thames. The couple were friends with the owner who said they could make use of the totally gorgeous grounds for their special day. Steph & Tim had thought carefully about exactly what they wanted for their wedding day, only using suppliers which had been recommended to them by friends or family. We were thrilled to be one of them!
We’d visited Bird Place a couple of months before to scope out the lay of the land and to visualise where we would be performing and loading in. This is always massively helpful, and we always try to do it when we can as it really does make a difference on the day. And it was another excuse to meet with Steph, Tim and Hugo. They really are just great.
The 7th of June 2014 came around so quickly! The morning began a little…rainy…and, er…thunderstormy. In Wiltshire getting ready to go, I was praying (as I’m sure were many) for sunshine. And at last! Our prayers were answered, the sun broke through the clouds the the day turned out to be one of the hottest yet! We arrived and set up it was hot hot HOT! The marquee was just gorgeous, decorated beautifully. We had a great stage to perform on.
And the grounds…wow. I’ll let the photos to the talking here:
We set up and sound-checked on the big stage in the huge marquee. It was going to be brilliant. Not a rain cloud in sight. By about 3pm we were ready. We wanted to set up before the wedding breakfast so we could start straight away after dinner. Often this can mean quite a few hours of waiting before we perform but we didn’t mind a bit. Steph and Tim had kindly arranged for us to make us of a conservatory where we could warm up & get changed. It was the best break our room ever! Loads of light, lots of seating and tables. Just perfect. We used our time wisely, rehearsing, enjoying the sun and had a walk around Henley. It was glorious.
It wasn’t long before we were on. Steph and Tim had arranged some food for us, it was delicious and just what we needed for an energy boost before we performed. We got ready to go. Start time was 830!
For their first dance, Steph and Tim had chosen ‘Your Song’ by Elton John and ‘Love Man’ by Otis Redding. Two very different, but equally amazing songs. We’d spent a long time learning and rehearsing them as we’d had loads of notice. We wanted to make sure they were just perfect. If you would like us to learn a song for you, we’ll have a listen and see if we think it will suit our style, voices and line up. If we think that we can do it justice and we have enough time to learn it, we will give it a shot! If, after rehearsal, we think the original make work better, we’ll let you know. It’s always a good idea to choose something personal, that everyone knows and enjoys!
Your song was just beautiful, Steph and Tim looked so gorgeous dancing together. The rest of the wedding party joined in for part two – Love Man. Afterwards, we launched into the first set, putting out hit after hit of great songs Steph and Tim had requested. The weather was just glorious, the marquee was open fronted which meant the guests could enjoy the music whilst still enjoying the weather! The first set continued well into evening. We stopped at some point for a quick break and let DJ Stuart take to the decks with some cool tunes that Steph and Tim had chosen. All week, Stuart had mentioned what fab tracks they had picked! Before long, we were back on for set two. It was wild! We debuted our version of ‘Blurred Lines’ – it went down a treat!
It was brilliant. And such a blur. We had such a fab time. We’d been waiting to perform for Steph and Tim for so long. Huge thanks to Yvonne for recommending us to Steph and Tim and big thanks to Steph and Tim for being so brilliant. We loved every minute of performing for you and hope to see you both very very soon! 😀
After packing up and loading the van, we headed back to Maidenhead to grab a few hours sleep before catching our flight to Norway in the morning! The moon looked particularly amazing that night.
