Last weekend was pretty busy! It began on Friday in Brean where we performed with our ‘sister act’, Jamie and the First Class. Afterwards we ventured North to the Lake District to perform at a very lovely wedding for James and Abbie, read the blog about it here.
Jen got in touch back in October to see if we were available to be her party band for the night. The party sounded fabulous and we were thrilled to be asked! We met with Jen and her husband Richard at Bowood House a few weeks before the bash to run through their song choices and where we would be setting up. We like to do this is we can as its always good to put faces to names and run through the plan for the evening! They were just lovely, and the party sounded brilliant. They had chosen some great songs for the evening, La Bamba, Hound Dog, Daydream Believer, Twist & Shout, Moves Like Jagger and loads more! We were so excited to be performing them.
Bowood House is stunning. We’ve been lucky enough to play there before. The grounds are just spectacular and the sun was shining. It was positively glorious!
We arrived at about 4pm and we’re met by the lovely team at Bowood. They are so helpful and very welcoming. We set up and sound-checked. The room we were performing in was huge and set out beautifully. There was a BBQ planned for the guests later on. It was going to be brilliant. Sound check went without hitch. The room was empty when we sound checked, which meant the acoustics were very different to what they were later on when the room was full. We compensated for this by making a few tweaks to our *new* Soundcraft desk once the guests had arrived. We we’re really excited to be using our new HK Audio PA system again for the second time. We’re pretty proud of our equipment and make sure we regularly update the equipment we used and get it serviced often. It had sounded brilliant on Saturday so we knew it would sound great at Jen’s party. Bass player Stuart Morrell got in the zone. We had tea, we ate cookies, we told jokes.
The guests began to arrive, they looked fantastic! Hostess Jen wore *the most amazing* dress and looked stunning! The gents wore bow ties and looked incredibly smart! After a short time in our break our room, we got changed into our Zoot suits, had a quick bite to eat from the delicious BBQ and we were ready to get the party started! As it was a ‘glitz and glamour party’, I wore my gold sparkly shoes which I love! We began with Brown Eyed Girl and picked up the tempo with some up beat 50s and 60s numbers which Jen had requested form our song list. We also performed ‘Wonderful tonight’ for Jen & Richard, which was their first dance song for their wedding 10 years ago. It was really special that we were able to perform it for them and was so lovely watching them dance! After a quick break, we were into the second set, where we played some classics from the 70s and 80s and some modern numbers too! Bass player Stuart Morrell Sang ‘Happy’ again which sounds brilliant and lead guitarist Ben Jones wowed the guests with his jaw dropping guitar solos! Si Small was out of this world brilliant on the drums, it sounded great!
We had such a great night and we are so happy that Jen chose us as her party band for the night. Jen was kind enough too to share the photos with us, they are fantastic! Thank you so much to Jen for asking us to perform. And thank you to the team at Bowood, Harry, Freddie, Arno and Paul! They were brilliant and looked after us so well!
Looking forward to performing there again in a couple of weeks.
