We were excited to be performing at Eric Herd’s 60th Birthday party at his lovely house in the West Midlands. Eric is the owner of a company called ‘Farmfoods’ a Scottish family business which has been providing frozen foods since the 1960s. It was our second gig for the family having played at Amy’s Dads party in January. It was also our second time performing for Champions Agency who we joined at the start of the year. Lauren, Claire and the owner of the Champions John were all at the event, so we had to be good! We arrived in time to load in all our equipment round the side of the house and parked the van just outside. Lauren and Claire were kind enough to help us in with the gear, they both so helpful and cheerful! Thank you girls! There was a nice sized marquee in the garden with a stage and a nice bar in the corner. All ready to go!
Tommy performed with the double bass for the first few numbers, Ed our sound man was on hand to make sure it sounded great. We had put together a show to suit all age groups starting with some 1950s; Rock around the clock, La bamba, Hound Dog and Summertime Blues. We then including some songs from our Sounds of the Sixties Show including Do you wanna dance, Twist and Shout and Wonderful World .
In the break we had some delicious food and as the night drew darker the party atmosphere grew into a frenzy. Birthday boy Eric had asked us to play a bit of everything and it was going down really well with all the guests young, middle aged and old. In the second half The Zoots started the set with songs from the 1980s including Billie Jean and Beat it by Michael Jackson as well as Footloose by Kenny Loggins. We then made our way through a few 1990s hits onto our finale. I walked around and got to know so of the guests, they were tremendous fun!
After standing on the tables and chairs I started to whip up the crowd during our dance mix finale.
We ended the night on Hey Jude and everyone at the party was arm in arm singing on the dance floor! It was a tremendous evening and an honour to be performing for Eric Herd on his 60th Birthday! We met so many nice people and hope to see them all again!
Thank you so much to Lauren and Claire for looking after us and John at Champions and to Eric, Amy and all the family for having us, it was a fantastic party! Lots of love,
