It was a real honour to perform at Nina and Matt Barnes’s at such a wonderful venue, the beautiful Hazelwood Castle, Yorkshire on Valentines Day 2014. We’ve been booked to perform for quite a long time, so had liaised with Matt & Nina a lot before the day. Nina, the bride, was so nice to deal with in the run up to the day, I felt that we’d known her for ages, she was very relaxed on the day and absolutely lovely.
I was so proud of our performance as a band, we sounded really tight, all of our recent rehearsals have obviously been paying off! Our sets sounded brilliant and the guests were really great singing along to words and dancing like it was nobody’s business!
It was very romantic to get married on Valentine’s day (Matt has no excuse to forget their anniversary!) Matt the groom is a also guitarist; it can be tough playing in front of other musicians but Matt was very impressed with our skills, in particular, lead guitarist Ben Jones. Ben is one the best guitarist I’ve heard and played with. He is so good and and one of the five reasons The Zoots do so well.
Hazlewood Castle is such a brilliant wedding venue. it looked wonderful even though it was raining. It was so cosy and warm inside with lots of space for the guests to relax in. There were open fires dotted about the place giving off heat as we walk past. Harriet and I went to visit the venue before the big day, meeting with Steve who works at Hazelwood. He was really nice & welcoming; his genuine enthusiasm for the venue and Nina & Matt’s wedding shone through as he showed us around.
On the night the duty manager Amy was very incredibly helpful and made our set up a lot easier by letting us share the resident DJs room behind the stage. Nina & Matt choose quite a few songs from our repertoire that we don’t play that often which was fun; for example ‘Knocking on Heavens Door’, by Guns and Roses – everyone LOVED it! I got on the dance floor and got everyone to help sing along, it was a great song choice! During the show I enjoyed watching Harriet operating Bens wah wah pedal during Sweet Child O’ Mine. My highlight of the night was look on Matt and Nina’s faces during some of the slower songs we played, they looked so truly happy and blissfully in love as they enjoyed dancing together as husband and wife. Seeing them so happy dancing to our music is the reason I wanted to sing in the first place. It makes all the years of hard work worthwhile. When we arrived home in the morning I had a message on my phone from Nina ” Thank you so much for making our wedding day so special!”
Thank you for reading!
Here’s some very kind words from the lovely couple:
AWESOME is the best word that can be used to describe The Zoots. From the minute you started your set everyone in the room was rocking and having a great time, the room was filled all night and the tunes just kept coming. You are extremely talented musicians, totally professional and such lovely people, two months on from our wedding and everyone is still talking about how amazing you were! We can’t thank Jamie, Harriet, Ben, Mike and Stuart enough for making our wedding day so special and ending the day on such a high – we didn’t think the day could have got any better but you made it happen!
To anyone thinking about booking The Zoots, don’t hesitate, they will provide a truly memorable performance for you.
