Today’s journey is dark and a little chilly. It’s November the 15th, a Saturday. We’re travelling from Zoots HQ here in Wiltshire to Devon. Destination: Huntsham Court. We make our way down windy country lanes, with tight twists and turns, night-time fast approaching. We are literally in the middle of nowhere. No houses, no farms, nothing, just acres and acres of countryside. I imagine in the daylight, it’s a pretty spectacular, beautiful and green but now, as the dusk settles, it’s a bit spooky. There’s no service on our phones and we discuss what would *really* happen if we broke down. Werewolves, really really quick sand and very spooky, haunted woods spring to mind as we envisage ourselves tramping through the soggy fields searching for help. My mind gets carried away with me as we journey on, making a mental note to pack torches and blankets for our next outing, you know, “just in case”. I want to reach the venue before it gets dark, to see the building properly in the light. But time and daylight are not on our side. As we pull up, I take a photo. I hope you can tell from the photie above…it’s pretty special.
We say hello to the lovely bride and groom Christian & Jessie. We met with them a couple of weeks ago in the the Big Smoke to discuss everything wedding related. It was so great to finally meet them and put faces to names. Jessie looks absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress, dotted with colourful embroidery, she shines. Laid-back and fun, Jessie & Christian were brilliant. From the outset, we knew we’d have a great time performing for them. Based in London, they chose Huntsham Court for their wedding venue, out in the countryside, with enough bedrooms for their guests to stay over the night before and on the night, making a weekend of the wedding, a great idea! Christian and his men were immaculatley dressed in wore country tweed, chic, burberry, shooting jackets, long socks and brogues. They looked fab! We unpacked our personal items as settled in, in the Butlers Pantry. Where there was a lot of bread.
We had a short time to wait until we could access The Grand Hall where we were performing. As the wedding party filed in for their wedding breakfast, we got set up around a lovely fireplace. The Zoots performed at Hunstsham Court for a wedding in 2011 so were familiar with the space. We were ready to party!
Christian’s family are from Denmark so Jessie and Christian for their first dance had a Brudeval (bridal waltz). All the guests stood in a circle and clapped as the couple danced. As the music continued, the guests moved in closer and closer until the bride and groom were surrounded by their family and friends. When the circle of friends and family could get no smaller, this was the cue for the newly weds to kiss!. It was great to be able to watch, we even took a video.
As soon as the first dance finished the party really got fired up. Jessie and Christian had chosen ‘Gimmie some lovin’ by Spencer Davis as the first song and it got the whole crowd up and dancing.
As the night went on, off came the jackets and the on went the dancing shoes! We belted out out hit after hit song like only The Zoots know how! Jessie & Christian had chosen some fabby songs from from our repertoire. The atmosphere was electric! At one point, Christian and Jessie were raised into the air and they rocked the night away!
Towards the end of the night the guests made a tunnel of love for the newly weds to walk under.
We closed the night with slow dance. We were very happy Zoots.
It was a fantastic wedding and we were so pleased to be involved, we meet some lovely people and had a fantastic time! Big thanks to the wonderful staff at Hunstham Court! Huge congratulations to the very lovely Jessie & Christian, thank you so much for choosing us as your wedding band, can we do it all again please?
