Lisa & Niall got in touch with us what feels like years ago! We’d been recommended to them, so they came to one of our public events to watch us perform. Not long after they booked us for their wedding at Cuffley Camp in Hertfordshire. We’d been in touch with Lisa & Niall loads in the run up to the wedding. I loved the little notes Lisa send with her post, always made our day receiving something from her.
Cuffley Camp was a pretty unique wedding venue. It’s an ‘outdoor Centre is set in 90 acres of outstanding natural beauty in south-east Hertfordshire, just 15 minutes from the M25. The site, which is designated as a site of Special Scientific Interest, dates back to the 13th Century and its characteristic Hornbeam trees form part of an extensive managed woodland.’ The room we performed in was just wow!
We arrived early. We wanted to set up and soundcheck before the guests arrived at 430. We’ve been so pleased with our new HK Audio PA system. It’s been brilliant, the sound is so so good – worth every penny! The sun was shining when we arrived. The place was beautifully decorated. You could tell the pair had invested a lot of time making sure everything was just perfect. In our correspondence in the week leading up their wedding, Lisa had mentioned she was knee deep in ‘arty things’ for the wedding! Their hard work certainly all paid off. Cuffley Camp looked amazing. It had such incredible natural light coming in from everywhere.
Lisa & Niall had though of everything! Straw bales and cushions for people to sit on, candles outside, hearts EVERYWHERE, they’ve even decorated the hand tissue dispensers in the loos! There were photos everywhere you looked. Even though we didn’t know Lisa & Niall as well as their guests, their beautiful photos really painted a wonderful picture of their relationship and everything they had done together. It really was brilliant. The flowers, the decoration, the bunting, the colours, it was all so fab! I just loved the giraffe! (see photos later on!)
After setting up and sound checking which went without hitch, we made our way back to the ‘band tent’. Lisa and Niall had set it up just for us to use as a place to change. It really does make such a huge difference having somewhere we can use to warm up, get changed and store our belongings in! A tent was a first for us! Very kind of them and it did the job nicely! As the afternoon was glorious, we sat outside on a picnic bench. We laughed, joked, played guitar, lost our heads, ate bananas, impersonated Mike and arm wrestled. It was a lovely afternoon and we we looking forward to the evening ahead. Lisa & Niall had kindly arranged for us to have some of their BBQ wedding breakfast, it was delish and prepared us nicely for the evening ahead.
The evening came and went in a blur! The photos here are a little thin on the ground as we were busy performing! It was a great night. As the weather was nice and the room was hot, guests were able to enjoy the music outside for our first set. For our second set when it was a little chillier outside, everyone came inside and danced their feet off!! It was awesome. It was so wonderful so the lovely Lisa & Niall have such a great time. For their first dance, they wanted ‘We Are Young’ – it went down a treat, everyone was singing along on the chorus. They’d also mentioned that they were fond of ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz. So lead guitarist Ben Jones learnt and perfected the lead vocal in time for the them. Combined with Mike & Stuart’s harmonies, it sounded just lovely and Lisa & Niall really appreciated that we had taken the time to learn it for them. Hopefully we’ll get asked to perform it again one day soon as it sounded great! Bass player Stuart did a wicked DJ set between our sets, playing some awesome tunes the couple had asked for.
It all happened so quickly, and no sooner had we started were we packing away and being ushered out of the hall. It had been such a brilliant night. We were so pleased that we were able to perform for such a wonderful couple. We hope our paths will cross again one day soon.
A once full hall full of dancing bodies was soon down to just one…
And then none…
