I was lucky enough to grow up in the town of Maidenhead in Berkshire and ever since Norden Farm, Centre for the Arts was built in 2000, I have always wanted to play there. It was so close when I lived in Maidenhead, I used to walk to the venue and watch some of the live music events there. When I formed The Zoots, I hoped we’d, one day, perform at Norden Farm, and today was that day, The Zoots were finally playing at the venue a stone’s throw away from where the band was formed.
We were so excited to be heading to Lyme regis today. Our first show back in the UK since our trip to Spain to perform on the Independence of The Seas last week.
The 122 year old Marine Theatre hasn’t always been a theatre. The site has been many things to many people for many years. Bazaars, elections, dinners, Victorian holiday visitors stepping out of hot sea baths, fossil displays, public meetings, music, theatre, dance… a babble of people and scenes make up the atmosphere of this rare and charismatic venue. Needless to say, we were looking forward to performing! Continue reading
HURRAH IT’S SATURDAY THE 20TH OF MAY! We had the best time yesterday performing at The Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis (read the blog about it here) but today it is the wedding of Chris and Rachel and we’re REALLY EXCITED as they are big back to the future fans, and rumour has it, there will be a DeLorean making an appearance! Eeee.
Rachel and Chris were getting married at Lains Barn in Wantage so it was a fairly short drive from Zoots HQ to the Barn. Rachel had spotted us at her hen do at The Beacon, Wantage last year. (remember that? What an awesome show that was!). We were just so pleased that Rachel enjoyed the show so much that she decided to book The Zoots to perform on their wedding day.
Hurrah, it’s finally here! We’d been waiting for this day for aaaaaaages! It was the day Laura and Pete got married! Laura and Pete spotted us at Sam & Luke’s wedding way back in 2014! Following their engagement on NYE 2016, Laura and Pete got in touch to see if The Zoots were available to perform at their wedding. Laura told us that we were the first thing they booked for their wedding, even before they booked their venue!
Yesterday was so fantastic, Our 1960’s show went down so well, we were exhausted.
We stayed at a B&B close to the venue, which Kevin has kindly arranged for us.
As we weren’t far from my parents in Lancashire, we decided to meet up and have a day out with the Lowthers at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
We had a lovely day in the sunshine going on rides, and hanging out with my family. It also happened to be my mums birthday, so I was really pleased that I was able to celebrate the day with her.
We’ve been looking forward to this weekend, since it was booked back in April last year. 41 Club member Kevin had spotted us perform on a cruise and emailed to ask if we would be available to perform at the 41 Club Annual Conference ‘Blackpool Roxx’ on the weekend on the 21st and 22nd of April. 41 Club was formed in 1945 to provide a way for members of Round Table to continue their friendships after retirement from Round Table at the then obligatory age of 40. Once a year they meet for their National Conference, this year the conference was to take place at Blackpool Tower, where The Zoots would be performing on Friday and Saturday evening! This is the second part of the Blog for our Good Friday show at The Beacon in Wantage, (did you catch up with our antics in part 1?) The show was so good, and we had so many photos and videos from the night, that we had to put it in two parts! At the end of the first show, no one could quite believe what Jamie had done with his guitar! In the break we put on our new costumes which consisted of some Red Guards jackets, as featured in our photo shoot with Michael Randolph last summer. The set started with a new one for us; Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club band followed by ‘With a little help from my friends’ which were originally recorded 50 years ago!
A glorious day in Holt, Wiltshire at Nam Studios where for the first time The Zoots are recording their own original material. NAM is a wonderful wheelchair friendly studio run by Nick Allen and has been used by lots of bands and musicians including, Van Morrison, Royal Blood and KT Tunstall.
“Thank you for the most amazing night on Saturday you certainly performed your hearts out and my party certainly had a ball”
We’re so excited that spring is here. It’s hot and the sun is out. We’re on our way to Eastbourne today, to perform for Stephen and Amanda at Amanda’s birthday party. Amanda knows about the party, but she doesn’t know about us performing, she thinks Stephen has booked another band!
Both Stephen and Amanda loved the show and asked if we would be able to perform for his wife’s surprise party in April 2018. We were available and the date was set! 🙂 Whilst on the phone, chatting to Stephen, he mentioned he was heading to Goodwood Revival that weekend. ‘What a co-incidence’, I said. ‘We’re performing at Goodwood!’. Did you read the blog about our show at Goodwood Revival? It was amazing, and even better was that we were able to meet up with Stephen too!
The date was set and we were looking forward to it!
“Thanks again for playing at our wedding last Friday, it was amazing!! Tons of people commented on how much they enjoyed the music (and amazing variety in the setlist as well)…”
Steph and Laurence got in touch in May 2016 to see if The Zoots would be available to perform for them at their wedding.
We first met Laurence when they arranged to come and see us perform at 1960‘s festival in Weston in 2016. They were by far the youngest people in the audience, so we recognised them straight away. It was great to meet them, and we’re so pleased our show gave them a flavour for what we could do. They liked it so much, they decided they would like to book The Zoots to be their band for their wedding. Fast forward a few months and we were proud to be performing for the lovely couple on their special day. Continue reading
