A glorious day in Holt, Wiltshire at Nam Studios where for the first time The Zoots are recording their own original material. NAM is a wonderful wheelchair friendly studio run by Nick Allen and has been used by lots of bands and musicians including, Van Morrison, Royal Blood and KT Tunstall.
“Thank you for the most amazing night on Saturday you certainly performed your hearts out and my party certainly had a ball”
We’re so excited that spring is here. It’s hot and the sun is out. We’re on our way to Eastbourne today, to perform for Stephen and Amanda at Amanda’s birthday party. Amanda knows about the party, but she doesn’t know about us performing, she thinks Stephen has booked another band!
Both Stephen and Amanda loved the show and asked if we would be able to perform for his wife’s surprise party in April 2018. We were available and the date was set! 🙂 Whilst on the phone, chatting to Stephen, he mentioned he was heading to Goodwood Revival that weekend. ‘What a co-incidence’, I said. ‘We’re performing at Goodwood!’. Did you read the blog about our show at Goodwood Revival? It was amazing, and even better was that we were able to meet up with Stephen too!
The date was set and we were looking forward to it!
“Thanks again for playing at our wedding last Friday, it was amazing!! Tons of people commented on how much they enjoyed the music (and amazing variety in the setlist as well)…”
Steph and Laurence got in touch in May 2016 to see if The Zoots would be available to perform for them at their wedding.
We first met Laurence when they arranged to come and see us perform at 1960‘s festival in Weston in 2016. They were by far the youngest people in the audience, so we recognised them straight away. It was great to meet them, and we’re so pleased our show gave them a flavour for what we could do. They liked it so much, they decided they would like to book The Zoots to be their band for their wedding. Fast forward a few months and we were proud to be performing for the lovely couple on their special day. Continue reading
There have been many legends in music leaving the stage recently, Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Leonard Cohen, Bobby Vee, Glen Frey, Rick Parfitt & Chuck Berry but there is one music legend we have lost that you may not have heard of; my friend and mentor Laurie Jay.
Laurie started his career as a drummer and played all over the world in countless bands including the Shadows, The Echoes as well as playing for Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis. He even taught Dave Clark how to play drums! Laurie also fronted his own band the Laurie Jay combo who released 5 records from 1962-1965 the later with Decca records.
As a band we get to travel around alot and we get to see some lovely places, recently we’ve been to Kusadasi, La Coruna, Split, Lisbon and The Azores. It is a brilliant journey and we are having a great time, we just need to remember to tell everyone about it! Continue reading
Hello! Me again,
Its been a crazy few months in Zoots world, we were touring non stop from November to the beginning of 2016 and we’ve moved our HQ. We’ve found an article from last November about our excellent cruise to Malta, Barcelona and Cagliari.
I hope you enjoyed our blog from December about our performance in the Broadway Melodies Theatre. When we weren’t busy onstage with our 1960’s show, we were fortunate enough to have some time off to explore the places which we stopped in, boy we’ve been very lucky Zoots this year, and we’ve visited some amazing places. Today I want to tell you a little bit about where we went, and share with you some photos we took on our travels in late November. Continue reading
Ok, so we’ve been back three days and I think we’ve just about recovered from what must have been our BEST shows ever, on board the Rhapsody of The Seas.
It began at Zoots HQ in Wiltshire of course, where most of our stories begin. We’ve had a busy few months performing at lots of events including Natalie & Rhys’ wedding, our awesome halloween show at Stamford Corn Exchange, as well as lots of other performances we just really haven’t had the time to tell you about. You may remember from our latest band blog post, we’re moving house, as well as having a full diary of performances and taking bookings well in to 2017, we’re pretty busy! So if you’re thinking about booking The Zoots, we’d recommend getting in touch asap!
We’ve had a fantastic few weeks and The Zoots have travelled to some beautiful places: Rome, Pisa, Naples, Athens, Venice, Kotor, Vienna and Santorini. We have spent a long time in planes airports and taxis, some journeys more dangerous than others. We have survived a few testing times including a petrol shortage and a lorry strike in Naples and our lost luggage in Santorini. We’ve had few near misses with including the riots in Athens which we missed by a few hours.
Today we’re off to Lytham St Annes. Yes waaaaaaay up North. We’re perform at the Clifton Arms Hotel. Strangely, and genuinely unconnected, I’ve just been reading about how the Clifton Arms do a fabulous afternoon tea. So if you’re in Lytham, go there. We didn’t try it but the Internet says its really good. Continue reading
It’s Thursday the 2nd of April and spring has made a brief appearance. Somewhere some birds are tweeting and I’m pretty sure the sun was shining a bit. Today we’re off to Grims Dyke Hotel to perform for the lovely Dani & Stuart for their wedding day. Dani had seen us perform a couple of times (back in 2011 and 2013) and was keen to have us as their wedding band. Dani got in touch waaaaaay back in February 2014 (remember it?). We were available and we said yes! The date was in the diary! Continue reading
