Last year we lucky enough to perform at Matt and Laura’s wedding at Deer Park Country House. Little did we know but Dave and Jen were in attendance looking for a wedding band of their own. They got in touch and we were delighted to booked for their big day at a very well known venue, famous for its amazing home made food. Harriet and I met with the lovely couple a few months later in Lancashire and we had a fantastic time together discussing the wedding at River Cottage. We were very excited as we’d seen the TV program and heard so many good things. Dave and Jen had generously included us in the wedding breakfast! Wow, it was going to be very special treat!
As we arrived through the windy roads of Dorset, we had a fantastic view at the beginning of the drive. The clouds were looming but as soon as we arrived the rain stopped.
We were greeted to the venue by two cats who were adorable. The staff at River Cottage were very welcoming and made us a cup of coffee as soon as we arrived.
We then experienced the best meal ever! It certainly is saying something as we have played all over the world and in some of the most prestigious venues and enjoyed some excellent food. This was something extra special though; I had the mozzarella tart with white beetroot and crushed new potatoes and beans, the boys had the beef. Wow, it was tremendous! We were all very impressed and very excited!
After dinner we loaded in our equipment into the banqueting hall, all the staff at the venue were very helpful and friendly. River Cottage really is a nice place for a wedding! There was a nice present room just to our left with some nice decorations.
For the first dance Jen and Dave chose Candy by Paulo Nutini, it was a wonderful first dance and a very special moment! Dave is from the North West and Jen’s family are from the South West so lots of the grooms friends and family had travelled a long way to be there. With a food pun to begin, lettuce celebrate! With some more up ‘beet’ music!
The wedding party got going straight away with great song selection form Jen and Dave including Crazy Little thing called love by Queen, Are you gonna be my girl by Jet and Mr Brightside by The Killers.
Dave and Jen were joined on the dance floor by all their friends and family and the show started like a dream, everyone was up and away!
The dance floor got busier and busier until we had a break for some wood fired pizza made and created by the brilliant chefs of River Cottage. All the ingredients were made on site including the dough, you breader believe it! The cheese was grate and we all enjoyed it so munch!
After a 30 minute non stop dance medley, the crowd were at fever pitch and one of the guest’s in the crowd who owns a restaurant asked me at ‘Can you Turnip up?’ We performed Blurred Limes by Robin Thicke. The crowd enjoyed the wrap part on Rappers delight and (R)Ice (R)ice Baby. We ended on Hey Joude with all the guests arm in arm. We then repeated the first dance at the very end to leave the evening on a perfect note at midnight.
At the end of the night the guests took the tractor back to the car park at the top of River Cottage. They couldn’t walk and as one of the guests stated ‘I would drive but I don’t ava cado’? My apologies for all the ‘corny’ food puns! some of them have been a bit crepe. Thank you so much to Dave and Jen for choosing The Zoots to be their wedding band for the evening.
