Hellllo Saturday, Hello early start!
Today though, we’re up bright and early and heading to a beautiful village called Wilton, in Wiltshire. Just 30 minutes drive from Zoots HQ. We’re performing for Sofia & Richard on their wedding day.
We arrived around 11:15am, to begin setting up and sound-checking before the guests arrived at Dodsdown Farm at 1pm. We met with Annie & the team from Revel in Food who were catering for the day. (It was seriously delicious). George from Organic Hog Roast was there too, cooking the hog roast in time for this afternoon.
The marquee where we were playing looked, amazing. I loved the customised papel picado hanging from the ceiling, it was brilliant! In the marquee there was also a really huge and really old rock. If you’re familiar with Wiltshire, you’ll know all about the Avebury Stones, well this rock is as old as one of those! We kinda loved it.
As we finished setting up, we met with Holly Rose Stones, Sofia & Richard’s photographer. She was amazing, and soooooo so nice! Have a look at her website (and book her) here. After set up, the guests arrived at the venue and we finally got to meet Sofia & Richard. They were every bit as lovely as we just knew they would be! As were their friends and family.
It may have rained a little bit here, but I didn’t really notice. Everything (and everyone) looked so gorgeous and were so happy, a few spots of rain weren’t going to dampen our spirits! 😀
After setting up, we made our way to into the huge conservatory, which Sofia & Richard had kindly arranged for us to use for our break between setting up and our our show later on this afternoon. It was light and comfortable, with lots of places for us to sit. We enjoyed some tea and ran through some vocal arrangements. We also tried really hard to save a bee, who did not look well.
I spotted a copy of the reading from the ceremony, couldn’t resist a quick snap, isn’t it beautiful?
We enjoyed some time exploring the grounds at Dosdown Farm.
And then we saw the cake tower! Tommy likes cake. *AND* it was his birthday last week.
We got dressed, and got ready to go on. Drummer Simon, was really good at writing his set list, well done Simon.
We went on for set 1 at around 5pm, or there about’s. I actually really enjoyed performing an earlier set. Everyone was happy and enjoyed the music. We had a limbo, lots of laughs, and lead guitarist Ben had an adorable new fan (see photos below).
Tommy’s wish for a birthday cake and a new guitar came true, what a night! 😀
Set 2 happened rather quickly too, after a short break in between sets. Things got rather wild in set 2, and the rock was quite the dancing prop…
Here’s Richard on THE HUGE AND REALLY OLD ROCK:
We closed the evening with a slow number to wind things down. I just loved watching Sofia & Richard dance to Angels for the final dance of the evening, surrounded by their guests, singing along:
We finished our second set around 830pm, which was unusual for us, as we’d normally only be starting at this time, but I really enjoyed performing earlier. Crikey we had such a good time. Here’s a photo of me with Sofia.
The evening wasn’t due to finish until 10pm, so we enjoyed the final hour and a bit getting to know everyone a little better. And also, sampled a margarita!
After we’d finished, shots of Mezcal were doing the rounds, stronger than tequila (and not for the faint hearted), this drink was taken with an orange slice coated in chilli flakes. Being rather faint hearted myself, I politely declined the offer to join in the drink! 😀
Lead guitarist Ben & I enjoyed looking at the art gallery at Dodsdown Farm, after we’d finished It was a collection of Dick Roberts’ work who lives at Dosdown Farm. In fact, Annie & the team from Revel in Food used Dick’s studio to prep!
Thank you so much to Sofia & Richard for choosing The Zoots to be their band for the evening. We had an absolute blast, and really enjoyed meeting each and every one of you! Remember to check our Holly Rose‘s amazing photography here, and see some of the culinary delights the team at Revel in Food can create, here.
We really did have the best time. Thank you to every single one of you who we met, and made us feel so welcome!
