I was lucky enough to grow up in the town of Maidenhead in Berkshire and ever since Norden Farm, Centre for the Arts was built in 2000, I have always wanted to play there. It was so close when I lived in Maidenhead, I used to walk to the venue and watch some of the live music events there. When I formed The Zoots, I hoped we’d, one day, perform at Norden Farm, and today was that day, The Zoots were finally playing at the venue a stone’s throw away from where the band was formed.
We were so excited to be heading to Lyme regis today. Our first show back in the UK since our trip to Spain to perform on the Independence of The Seas last week.
The 122 year old Marine Theatre hasn’t always been a theatre. The site has been many things to many people for many years. Bazaars, elections, dinners, Victorian holiday visitors stepping out of hot sea baths, fossil displays, public meetings, music, theatre, dance… a babble of people and scenes make up the atmosphere of this rare and charismatic venue. Needless to say, we were looking forward to performing! Continue reading
HURRAH IT’S SATURDAY THE 20TH OF MAY! We had the best time yesterday performing at The Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis (read the blog about it here) but today it is the wedding of Chris and Rachel and we’re REALLY EXCITED as they are big back to the future fans, and rumour has it, there will be a DeLorean making an appearance! Eeee.
Rachel and Chris were getting married at Lains Barn in Wantage so it was a fairly short drive from Zoots HQ to the Barn. Rachel had spotted us at her hen do at The Beacon, Wantage last year. (remember that? What an awesome show that was!). We were just so pleased that Rachel enjoyed the show so much that she decided to book The Zoots to perform on their wedding day.
We LOVE performing at the Alhambra Theater, a HUGE stage, an awesome PA, soooo many wicked lights, 2000 seats over 2 tiers and an awesome crew to work with!Jacko, Stage Manager, Gerry on sound, Mike on lights and Greg backstage are just brilliant. We opened the show with our new animated introduction which shows The Zoots coming from home to the stage. We have adding so many things to the show and we were really looking forward to showing them off.
“We’d just like to say a huge thank you to you all for playing at our wedding at Orchardleigh on 5th May! We loved your version of Faithless’s Insomnia – one of my favourite songs that me and my University friends haven’t danced together to for a long time so we really enjoyed your take on it. Many thanks once again! Natalie and Diarmuid”
Hurrah, it’s finally here! We’d been waiting for this day for aaaaaaages! It was the day Laura and Pete got married! Laura and Pete spotted us at Sam & Luke’s wedding way back in 2014! Following their engagement on NYE 2016, Laura and Pete got in touch to see if The Zoots were available to perform at their wedding. Laura told us that we were the first thing they booked for their wedding, even before they booked their venue!
Yesterday was so fantastic, Our 1960’s show went down so well, we were exhausted.
We stayed at a B&B close to the venue, which Kevin has kindly arranged for us.
As we weren’t far from my parents in Lancashire, we decided to meet up and have a day out with the Lowthers at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
We had a lovely day in the sunshine going on rides, and hanging out with my family. It also happened to be my mums birthday, so I was really pleased that I was able to celebrate the day with her.
We’ve been looking forward to this weekend, since it was booked back in April last year. 41 Club member Kevin had spotted us perform on a cruise and emailed to ask if we would be available to perform at the 41 Club Annual Conference ‘Blackpool Roxx’ on the weekend on the 21st and 22nd of April. 41 Club was formed in 1945 to provide a way for members of Round Table to continue their friendships after retirement from Round Table at the then obligatory age of 40. Once a year they meet for their National Conference, this year the conference was to take place at Blackpool Tower, where The Zoots would be performing on Friday and Saturday evening! This is the second part of the Blog for our Good Friday show at The Beacon in Wantage, (did you catch up with our antics in part 1?) The show was so good, and we had so many photos and videos from the night, that we had to put it in two parts! At the end of the first show, no one could quite believe what Jamie had done with his guitar! In the break we put on our new costumes which consisted of some Red Guards jackets, as featured in our photo shoot with Michael Randolph last summer. The set started with a new one for us; Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club band followed by ‘With a little help from my friends’ which were originally recorded 50 years ago!
It was our 4th show at The Beacon, Wantage and we had been working really hard to make this show a night to remember. We had lots of new things planned. Tonight would mark our first performance of our very own Zoots song written by lead guitarist Ben Jones, it would be the debut of The Zoots animation intro, the second time Jamie played the piano live on stage, the first time Harriet would sing two songs for the *and* we had some new costumes to show off. People had come far and wide to see the show, our super family fans and cousins; Ben, Vicki and Amy had driven 2 hours to be there! Our friends Amy and Ian and our super young fans Zara and Kaiya had driven from the other side of Bristol.
